Chief Nurse Anesthetist
Marlene Sanfilippo, who joined Ramapo Anesthesia (R.A.) in 1984, has served as our Chief Nurse Anesthetist for the last 18 years. She manages all CRNA's and assists in recruiting the best and brightest in the field to R.A.
Marlene, who has over 30 years of nursing experience, has tremendous organizational skills. She develops protocols and procedures for practicing anesthesia, and evaluates the performance of all CRNA's. Marlene proudly initiated and organized R.A.'s Nurse Anesthesia Residency program with Columbia University’s School of Nursing. She was appointed to Columbia’s faculty in 2000 as an instructor in clinical nursing. Marlene has helped make R.A. and Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. a site for her students to learn.
Marlene began her career at R.A. in 1984 as a Staff Nurse Anesthetist and accepted her current position eight years later. Prior to joining R.A., Marlene worked as a Critical Care Nurse at Harlem Hospital. Marlene also served in several capacities as an enterprising nurse at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.
She graduated from Harlem Hospital’s School of Anesthesia for Nurses with honors and received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Excelsior College. Marlene holds an Associate in Arts degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. She has certificates in neonatal advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support. Marlene resides in Pearl River, N.Y. with her husband, Michael, and the couple has a daughter, Marla.
